MarySue and Sherry have lectured extensively across the country and internationally since 1991. They have published numerous products including book, songs, and games related to self-regulation. Their work has been included in multiple Occupational Therapy Textbooks. MarySue and Sherry have developed practical ways to teach people of all ages how to incorporate sensory integration and "sensory diet" concepts into very day living. AOTA recognized their contributions by honoring them with the “Excellence in Intervention Development and Dissemination” Award in June 2003.

Target Audience:
This workshop is intended for a variety of professionals, including OTs, COTAs, PTs, PTAs, SLPs, teachers, paraprofessionals, social workers, counselors, and parents. All who participate will glean new information whether or not they have tried using the Alert Program®.

Educational Level:
The Alert Program® Online Course is appropriate for Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced levels because of the unique structure of this training: those who are new to the Alert Program® or sensory integration concepts (Introductory Level) will hear the information presented in a way that they will feel ready to begin using  the program. And those who are familiar with the Alert Program® (Intermediate Level) and those who have been using the program for years or even teaching about sensory integration concepts (Advanced Level), will hear new ways to share the information with other team members and entice them to become “detectives” to support self-regulation, as well as learning advanced ways to implement the program.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
1) Describe how to adapt the Alert Program® for use in a school, home, therapy, or community setting with an individual or group of individuals (any age from birth to elder care).

2) Interpret their own sensorimotor preferences thereby improving the ability to facilitate self-regulation in others (children or adult clients).

3) List new therapeutic/educational activities to support self-regulation appropriate for use in school, home, therapy, or community settings.

4) Identify novel methods for sharing sensory integration and Alert Program® basic concepts with others.

Course Description and Outline:
This course is designed so that the participant can begin or continue to implement the Alert Program® in their setting. Video modules and Additional Resources (links to articles, websites, etc.) will cover the following information:

NOTE: This online course requires access to high-speed internet connections to be able to view the content and complete the post-test. The book, “How Does Your Engine Run?”® A Leader’s Guide to the Alert Program® for Self-Regulation, handout packet with Module Tracking Checklist, and sensory strategies (Bag of Brain Breaks) will be mailed to participants for their use during the course.

AOTA CEUs/contact hours:
Upon successful completion of the course and post-test (with a score of 70% or better), TherapyWorks, Inc. will issue a Certificate of Completion for 20 contact hours and 2.0 AOTA CEUs (20 NBCOT PDUs).

Course Completion Requirements:
After all video modules have been viewed with successful completion of the post-test, a certificate of completion will be issued. You are welcome to repeat the test until you are successful, as long as the post-test is completed by the course expiration date.
